The Medical Technologies (Medizintechnik) bachelor’s degree programme consists of 7 semesters, one of which is a professional practice semester. The programme covers the basic interdisciplinary principles as well as the highly topical areas of medical apparatus technology, medical process chains, materials specific to medicine, medical measurement technology, medical signal processing, medical visualisation and health economics. It also delves into topics on strengthening professional social skills. A support and advisory programme was established as one aspect of the study organisation, based on the pillars of study guidance, assessment of suitability and mentoring. The teaching and learning methods were restructured, primarily through the involvement of external experts in a large number of courses.
Forging tomorrow's medical technologists
Medical technologies are regarded worldwide as among the key enabling technologies of the 21st century. Higher life expectancy, growing health awareness and technical innovations are growth drivers for an industry that is on the rise, especially in Germany. The need for modern medical technologies that help to detect, prevent or treat diseases at an early stage will continue to rise in the future – not least due to demographic change. In any case, the Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology equips graduates with a qualification that enables them to successfully invigorate and advance one of the most sustainable industries of our time.

Unlock your potential
In seven semesters, students learn not only the basics of engineering, medicine and computer science, but also healthcare economics, medical law and professional ethics. The comprehensive education programme is underpinned by extensive practical placements and practical exercises that take place in small groups and optimally prepare the future medical technologists for professional practice. Of particular note here are the practical exercises on live-operating large-scale equipment and complex systems.
Programme overview
The practical nature of the programme is also ensured by involving competent experts from healthcare facilities as well as medical technology companies. In addition, students benefit from the excellent networking with research facilities and the healthcare industry when working on their practical project, preparing their bachelor’s thesis and starting their professional career.
Admission and application
Admission to the programme requires a general higher education entrance qualification, an entrance qualification for studies at universities of applied sciences or an educational qualification recognised as equivalent. The Registration Office and the Student Advisory Service can provide information on the options for studying without a higher education entrance qualification. The admission requirement for foreign students is an C1 language level in German.
English language skills equivalent to level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is not mandatory but is strongly recommended
The Medical Technologies (MT) study programme admits students in the winter semester every year. The application deadline is 15 August. Please apply online through our ecampus application portal where you can upload all the necessary documents.
The Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences is a member of UNI-ASSIST (Application Services for International Students). Prospective students who have gained their university entrance qualification outside the European Union (EU) can therefore submit their application directly to UNI-ASSIST. To ensure adequate processing time, the application for the winter semester should be submitted to UNI-ASSIST by 30 June. Following a successful review, this is forwarded on to the Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. UNI-ASSIST charges applicants a fee to process the application.
You can find further information on the application procedure on the Registration and Examination Office’s website.
We recommend that applicants without subject-related education or training complete an internship before starting the study programme. To ensure an optimal start to the programme, we recommend completing the “Mathematics for first-year students” preparatory course offered by the Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences.
