Expanding horizons for 50 years: Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences celebrates its anniversary
Programme of events with culture, science and parties
There is a reason to celebrate: Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences is 50 years old and is organising various events throughout the year. ‘Our anniversary is not just an opportunity for us to look back. We are also looking forward to many more decades of shaping the development of the region with innovative ideas and enthusiasm. I look forward to welcoming all interested parties to our campus,’ says Rector Prof. Dr Dr h.c. Alexis Papathanassis.
Whether the city of Bremerhaven actually needs its own university was initially discussed time and again after it was founded on 1 September 1975. The fact that it is now celebrating its 50th birthday is thanks to the protests of university members and committed citizens at the time. Today, the entire region benefits from the ‘university by the sea’, which not only trains urgently needed specialists in its application-oriented degree programmes, but also supports companies with knowledge transfer for current challenges through its research projects.
To mark its anniversary, Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences is presenting itself with a customised logo this year. To celebrate with all interested parties, it is organising special events for different target groups under the motto ‘50 years of expanding horizons’. Highlights include the anniversary concert in cooperation with the Bremerhaven Philharmonic Orchestra on 25 June, an event for pupils on 14 August, a party organised by international students on 15 August and the big anniversary party on 16 August. On 27 September, all alumni are invited to a homecoming day with an extensive programme. From 9 to 12 October, ‘Das letzte Kleinod’ will allow all visitors to see the campus in a new light. On 28 October, the university hosts the popular TEDx format for the first time. The celebrations will conclude with the Annual Academic Reception on 6 November. Further information and dates will be published on an ongoing basis at www.hs-bremerhaven.de/en/university/jubilee.
